This morning's schedule

Take the boy to daycare
Call his new daycare
Take the car to the shop

(Attention, this is your final call, places please)

That's right. Today is the beginning of the moving weekend. In 48 hours I MUST have an empty house.

This of course is a call to all, that locals are invited to help us out and share our goodbyes.

We will feed you and be giving away copious amounts of alcohol that is not going with us.

Please contact me via phone or text (you can text me from my profile) if you can drop by. We especially could use assistance on Saturday.

As posted elsewhere.. This is what I woke up with in my head:

Overture, curtains, lights,
This is it, the night of nights
No more rehearsing and nursing a part
We know every part by heart
Overture, curtains, lights
This is it, you'll hit the heights
And oh what heights we'll hit
On with the show this is it

Tonight what heights we'll hit
On with the show this is it

Posted on LiveJournal FIRST!

Talk about a whirlwind. I am to start work the first Monday in April in St. Louis. So I have quite the adventure ahead.

This week I have 4 separate professional movers coming in to give me (Obscene) estimates. In the mean time I am pricing u-drag-it rentals to see how much we could conceivably do on our own. (Note: If anyone would like to talk to us to spend a week driving a 26' truck cross country for room, board, expenses, and a flight home... drop me a line)

By the end of the week, I intend to have our move dates set.

Many have already asked the wonderful question: HOW CAN I HELP!?!?

First and foremost... we need boxes. We need to have everything packed within 3 weeks. Several of you have participated in this and as always there will be plenty of libations. When will this be going on? Well, we are currently home all day, all evening. Which means... pick a time.. tell me you wanna drop by... And let's box and sort. In most cases... you might not even have to give me any warning.

We are also planning to get rid of a lot of stuff along the next 3 weeks. This ranges from craft making supplies, through old computer hardware and books, passing by toddler supplies, up to furniture. And it's gonna likely be close to if not free.

We're planning our big giveaway party over the weekend of the 14th/15th. But if you help out before that and want to offer poachers rights, "Oh, you're getting rid of this?" We'll probably let it go earlier. All you have to do is drag it's carcass out of here. (And yes.. again.. some of the furniture is part of the offer)

We needs you peoples... more will be posted on a regular basis.

In the mean time.. I'm gonna go back to reeling from my stomach goo.

If you follow my twitter/facebook you'll notice I've been quite the past few days.

It is true. I am again to be reemployed in the not too distant future in the far off lands of St. Louis. Well, not too far off if you live there.

A few people got the impression I was definitely going there, when we went out the weekend before last for a weekend of interview, sick toddler, and [livejournal.com profile] s00j surprising. Honestly, it was just an interview and after having been out of work for 14 months; I don't get excited over an on-site interview.

This is a huge move for us. This will be a huge experience for Aiden (that he's likely to soon forget).

And that means... it's moving time again.

We put the call out to all folks in Seattle (and to St. Louis.. of which we know like 4 people informally)... Any help is welcome and will be happily rewarded. Boxing, packing, eating of copious pizza, and other such thanks. Boxes, etc...

We'll also be throwing a huge 'garage sale/take our extra stuff for free party.' - We're getting rid of a tonne of stuff and we'd rather see it go to friends than goodwill or the dump.

If you are interested in helping an ANY way whatsoever.. please comment here, facebook, twitter... And we'll show you the schedule. It's going to be a WIIILLLLD month of March.

More forthcoming.

Edit I was out of work for 14 months the LAST time I was looking for a job. This one seems to have been muuuuuch shorter. I've been cautious from the history as well as the economy.

Sorry ;)
lordandrei: (15 months)
For now on my Facebook account.

More later.

Edit: Sorry, you'll need a facebook acct to see them for now. Will move them here when I have time

We had an late afternoon snack of hummus and pita at the hotel. Aiden was VORACIOUS. (It was really good)

Maybe too much. Aiden didn't really eat his dinner. He had a little chicken. Off to bed and asleep by 8:30 pm.
I got into bed around 10:30pm. King sized, sooooft pillows. About 11:15 Aiden started to toss. A lot of toss. more toss than usual. about 11:30 Aiden completely tossed. As in his cookies all over the bed and to varying degree us.

Kudos to the housekeeping staff for helping us thru that mini disaster. We entertained Aiden during the bed, sheet, and towel replacement with shorts from his newest favourite movie, "Wall-E." This may be the first film I've bought without seeing first. I'm fully justified. Will watch it many times.

Boy and mommy are trying to relax back into redressed bed. Aiden now guarded in a towel fort in case of further surprise tonight.

Let's just hope it was a nervous stomach and not something worse. More in the morning.

We are thinking of celebrating our new found patriotism for the US.

By skipping the country for Thanksgiving.

I have a 4 day weekend coming up and we are contemplating going to Vancouver.

We're looking for suggestions of things to see/do as well as places to stay.

An important addition to this... Toddler friendly. Kid's museums, etc.. Suggestions welcomed.

lordandrei: (Why me?!?!?)
I typically get about 6 hrs of sleep per night. And that seems to be okay.

Since getting home its been a bit more. Last night it was about 8 1/2 hrs

On the one side its good. I sleep deeper. I dream more. I have more rest cycle.
One the one side... it's not so good. I awake very groggy. Not all my dreams were great fun.

Currently I'm on the bus wanting a pillow.

There will be a full weekend report coming. With everything that happened in L.A. as well as everything going on at home... there was a lot to take in.

But big props and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ardras156 [livejournal.com profile] maeghanne (and everyone at Hazard house whos LJ's I don't have) and especially [livejournal.com profile] sesa777 for amazing OTO-style hospitality. Thank you for making my weekend so special and welcomed.
lordandrei: (WTF?!?!?)
"No, when you meet someone coming in from overseas you can't greet them calmly. You have to p in your pants in front of them."

I'm not even going to comment. I'm just going to post it.

Still shaking the last vestiges of June-Goo '08.

Tues/Thurs was the worst of this infestation. Which was really weird because I was utterly down for the count both days yet was functional in the office on Wednesday. Very weird.

Despite my hatred of the growing police state we live in, I signed away my life for some Pseudophedrine. The only think that kicks the crap out of severe congestion and flu for me.

The reason you have to sign for it now, is because some morons decided it was a great substance with which to make methamphetimines. And since the current US government treats its people as more likely to commit a crime than be honest, the drugs are no longer over the counter.

Amphetamines were known by another term in the 70s. Speed. Pseudophedrine is in fact related to amphetamines.

Which leads me back to this post.

We got in from Avenue Q last night around 11:30. I pretty much fell over in exhaustion congested to the back of my head at midnight. But not before taking to Pseudophedrine. At about 2:45 I woke up. Jittery and WIDE AWAKE.

This is not going to be very conducive for the rest of my day or weekend. I'm solo parenting "a" this afternoon and evening while "H" does mass. I obviously must be awake and focussed. This is humous while I sit here on a Saturday before 6am scratching at the feeling of the hair on my arms because I feel slightly like a strung out junky.

I suppose the good side of this is that I only get this wired on the stuff when it's reaching the end of its usefulness. Translation: If I take it easy today (and its a non-work day) I should be healthy by the time I go to sleep.

This would be exceedingly good because the mantra I have this weekend is, "When I awake tomorrow, Grecian travelers will be en route home."

Hiking with the family today. Managed to make my knee painfully unhappy with me.

The airline calls me to arrange luggage delivery.

Luggage found. Will see it at the hotel.

Poi on the beach at some point this weekend.
lordandrei: (Default)
Got to sleep around 10pm last night. Got up around 6:30.

Granted... these times are now eastern. Which means my body gave out at 7pm and yanked me awake at 3:30 this morning.

We still have heard nothing from the airport concerning our Wardrobe. This has out formal clothes for the Notocon Banquet, my long sleeve ruffly shirts, and most importantly our Poi.

The latter of the which sucks because we were thinking of spinning on the Maine shore this morning.

Maine? Yesterday after getting in, We went to JP to visit with [livejournal.com profile] queenofhalves then off to Cambridge to Lunch with [livejournal.com profile] motive_nuance back to JP to pick up my travel file. Then off to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy's Uncle and then off to crash in Maine with [livejournal.com profile] tailerouge. Due to scheduling the tattoo work for [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy from [livejournal.com profile] deanocturne should occur today.

Today we're headed back towards Salem for Notocon. Hopefully our missing luggage and the shipped artwork will be there.

This evening is the Open house.

Anyone at Noto looking to reach me can txt my cell. It is again charged and the texting should be working :)

If you don't have my cell: You can send me a text message via the link from my LJ profile. Please remember to include your cell phone # for return text msgs or at least an email you can readily check :)

In other news... I have tried the Facebook and found it to be a 'Good Thing'&trade

My initial reservations were that it required you to be in one of its recognized networks. But this was my misunderstanding of the interface. I am unhappy that region networks are limited to Seattle, Bellevue, and (I think Bothell)... You'd think Redmond and Everett would be listed.

But other than that, I like the extensibility. Lots of things you can do with it beyond the default, and with effort lots of things you can add to it.

So at this point.. I'd like to invite as many readers as possible to go sign onto Face Book. (http://www.facebook.com)

i don't get any credit for promoting it... But I definitely want to see what the environment is like with more people in my network. (Please note: I am only adding people that I know already. If I've met you online only through LJ, that's OK. People discovering me for the first time in FaceBook... not so much.)
lordandrei: (Die Die Die)
Our flight out was supposed to be first from Seattle to Las Vegas and then onto Boston on a RedEye. I'd thought the Vegas layover was 2 hrs. In fact it was one hour.

The Vegas flight is delayed. Therefore... we've been magickally transported to a direct flight on Alaska.

Sounds great, huh?

Not so much. Now we're in the airport for another 3 hrs. (Fortunately, i have Board Room membership.. So at least the drinks and wifi will be free.)

But the real pain is getting seating at the last moment. There are 3 of us flying not counting the baby. We had seats together on USAir. Now... Now we are 3 rows apart each for 5 hours.

Hopefully the gate person will be able to assist us.

Not pleased.

New driver at 3pm. Just passing mile marker 43 as we approach Castle Rock.

What a weekend.

Some other skipped notes. Somewhere along the line between Friday and Sunday.. [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman had 3 teeth erupt. He's now eating saltines.

[livejournal.com profile] elocinnuala picked up a very hot pair of blue horns.

[livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy got a new outfit. Yum.

Missing everyone... And have some interesting interactions coming up when I return :)

There will be a FW post forthcoming.

The camp site that clan [livejournal.com profile] sidhefire is staying at has no cell signal. Eugene, OR has cell signal, but not Sprint Edge (which gives me digital data)

My host and I have been trying to get me on his wifi which is stunningly well protected.

Finally got on for a few now. Catching up on email and the like.

FW post will hopefully be forthcoming.

Tricky Pixie absolutely rocks.
lordandrei: (Enslin colour)
So.. niftiness. We are off to Norwescon.

We have an agenda this year.

1) Autographs from [livejournal.com profile] cmpriest
2) Scoping out the dealer's room for ideas for [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy

Granted.. if we run into [livejournal.com profile] damiana_swan or [livejournal.com profile] herne51 that's really not a horrible thing :-D

The nifty part of this post.. is that I've finally gotten my cell phone working as a portable modem. So we are literally en-route.

This means that we have IM and net on the go.

Yes, I really can be that level of geek.

But it's con day... so there.
lordandrei: (Normal Andrei (as normal as he gets))
For those that hadn't heard by now. I will be in Austin for an extended weekend. I will be arriving this Thursday earrrrrrly in the morning and leaving early evening on Monday.

I have a fairly full schedule friday evening thru sunday evening.. but I'd still like to hook up with Aust---um---onians? that I know where I can.

Feel free to scribble and pass one within the area

It would seem that Jet Blue did not give me a voucher for a one way ticket from Boston to Seattle but in fact credit for the full fair cost of a roundtrip ticket from Boston to Seattle.

Effectively I have credit for one full fare flight for myself. I don't believe it has to even be Boston. So.. Dude. That makes summer/autumn plans nice.

And I have looked upon the mountains, I have seen them to be good, and I have thus said unto the mountains, woot.

It is now 10 am... It should be 7am and at home it is 7am.

Airlines have crunched down connection times to 40 minutes. In order to get planes in and out. The problem with this that you are certain not to make your connection if anything goes wrong.

While they were pushing our flight out of the JFK gate last evening (heading to Boston, where I'd connect back to seattle)... Something 'went wrong.' Basically, some kind of nose shielding was damaged. The plane had been rolled about 25 feet back. Then paused. Then they told us that something had gone wrong in 'push back' and they were going to roll us back into the gate to assess. The thing was 'easy to fix' if they had the part. 10 minutes later we were deplaned.

While annoying this is a good thing. Especially considering what happened to Alaska flight 536 less than 4 months ago.

So... we waited. There were 14 of us on the flight from JFK to Boston that were hoping to make the quick connection to Seattle. We were told there was a window that they could delay the other flight. Basically, if we boarded the Boston flight, that means we made it in time to catch the delayed flight.

After about an hour we were sitting on the Boston flight getting ready to "push back." So it seemed like they'd delayed the BOS/SEA flight. The cabin doors were closed and then the announcement came on. "We will be unable to delay the Seattle flight. Will all people connecting thru to Seattle please deplane at this time" Seattle folks were told they would be put up in a hotel near JFK for the night.

Now, I'm the product of a mixed marriage. My father was from Brooklyn and my mother was from the Bronx. They may not have agreed on much, but the one thing I learned is that you don't stay in Queens, if you don't have to. I was at the conference and in NY with my S.O. from Boston. I asked if I could travel thru to Boston and get re-ticketed from there. They said, sure.

Since I'm not having to have accommodations, the upside of this adventure is that I have been granted a voucher for one free Boston to Seattle one-way ticket to make up for this chaos. We were too damned tired to try to make our way through the Boston Light Rail. We got down to the cab line and a limo driver said, "Spare Limo... same price as a cab." You see this a lot in Vegas. Basically, there was a no show or a late flight. The limo is authorised to pull cab passengers as long as they charge the cab rate. I don't know why more people don't take advantage of this. While you pay the same rate you'd get in a cab. You get the Limo treatment. The car is of top notch quality, the driver opens doors carries bags to the door. So.. we at least got to ride in style. I explained what happened and he offered to bring me back to the airport for my flight today. (Which will come back to bite me shortly in the story)

Last night at about 11:45 I trudged into my S.O.'s house. Her husband was wonderful as he made me pasta and meat sauce. I contacted a local friend to make lunch arrangements. I did some computer catch up and crashed. We were awoken to the sound of husband growling. My cell phone went off at 6:10am and proceeded to keep getting called back every 2 minutes. I looked at the phone number. Metro Boston. Who in the hell would be calling me from Metro Boston at 6:10am? Oh. I called the number. "Hi is this the Limo company." "Yes sir." "Yes, that was 6:20 PM pick up"

Nice thing about Limo companies is rule 1. Always treat the customer like you want nothing more than to kiss their ass. They were VERY pleasant and apologetic. I will call them mid day to make sure they are still actually picking me up.

So, as a result, instead of getting home at midnight yesterday... My luggage should be making the trip from JFK to Seattle and getting there around 10:30 pm. I will be flying on the same flight tonight as it's the only one they have. So I'll be in at midnight tonight. Shortly I leave for my lunch, um... date?

More on the awesome weekend soon! Now I must email my director about missing another rehearsal. :-p

lordandrei: (Aha! (Feel the mystic realizations))
Yes... I am now in New York City for a conference. So much for my thelemic spirt. No three-days for me.

Took the jet blue redeye to Boston. Met up with my sweetie (It's a public post, so I need the right adjective) and flew from Boston to JFK. Then we went to the JFK airtrain. You know how they always talk about that 3rd rail thing. Well, as we were waiting a piece of tubing fell onto the third rail. There was a big bang and bright flash. Whee, NY.

From the Airtrain to the A-train. And now deep in the heart of... Well... the place is quaint... precious... darling... Faaaaaaabulous. :)

We're in the mini-lobby/kitchen. There is wifi. The room will be ready... shortly.

Then I think some unwinding before we try to see if we can muster lottery tickets for Rent :)

More as I have time...
