lordandrei: (Why me?!?!?)
I typically get about 6 hrs of sleep per night. And that seems to be okay.

Since getting home its been a bit more. Last night it was about 8 1/2 hrs

On the one side its good. I sleep deeper. I dream more. I have more rest cycle.
One the one side... it's not so good. I awake very groggy. Not all my dreams were great fun.

Currently I'm on the bus wanting a pillow.

There will be a full weekend report coming. With everything that happened in L.A. as well as everything going on at home... there was a lot to take in.

But big props and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ardras156 [livejournal.com profile] maeghanne (and everyone at Hazard house whos LJ's I don't have) and especially [livejournal.com profile] sesa777 for amazing OTO-style hospitality. Thank you for making my weekend so special and welcomed.

I will be teaching a class this coming Tuesday (May 27) at Horizon Oasis' Temple in Capitol Hill, in Seattle.

The class is called "The Theatrical Tools of Ritual Drama"

Here is das blurb (Yes, there always has to be a blurb)

In crafting ritual drama we spend painstaking hours studying god forms, mystical correspondences, arcane languages, and symbolic representations. Our tool set must not stop there for that is only half the equation. The use of text, performance, environment, and participation of those assembled all come from an art form that is as old as communication itself; theatre. In this class we will examine the tools of the theatre world and how they can be employed in conjunction with Ritual to raise and complement our magickal work.

This class starts at 7pm (which gives almost everyone time to get there after work... unless of course, you wish to traverse the 520 bridge)

The class is open to ANYONE. You do not need to be OTO, Pagan, Theatrical, .... Breathing is preferred.

No preparation is necessary. Donations to Horizon Oasis are welcome and will not be refused ;)

Those of you in Pittsburgh and Boston, should hop a plane now.

This occurred on March 15th (The ides of March), 1998.

Very busy 4 days ago. I forgot to remark that I have been an initiate of OTO...

For 10 years.

Dude.

Beware the ides of March...

March 15 is an interesting day in my universe.
The day holds 2 specific events I contemplate.

1) March 15th is the Anniversary of my paternal grandfather's death.
A strange thing to remember on initial glance.

My Grandfather Gilbert (for whom I was named loosely in English and directly in Hebrew) died on March 15th, 1968. Exactly 2 1/2 weeks before I was born.

My mother was nearly full term with me at the funeral. So I was born with 3 grandparents. And the one that I think may have been the most intriguing to me was Gilbert. (I am from a long line of 'first sons' which in Judaism is somewhat important.)

2) March 15th is the Anniversary of my Minerval degree.
The date I first took an initiation through the OTO.

This occurred in 1998. Which means I've now been 'in the order' for 9 years.
Ironically, I have only lapsed from being an active member for 1 year.
This occurred shortly after my 2nd degree.

On this I contemplate how I am close to surpass the amount of time I devoted to the SCA (15 yrs) and other odd milestones. I contemplate the changes in who I am and who I was before my time in the order and the things that have occurred. Both to me and the organization.

I also think about this day in context of my knowledge of my grandfather and how he might have reacted to my decisions to join the Order. I think he and I would have gotten along very well. But sadly... almost everyone who knew him has passed. (Gilbert is survived by 2 of his 4 sons)

As mentioned... I'm also on final approach to my next birthday on March 15.

This will be my first birthday with a son.
This will be my first birthday with a face full of white hair.
This will be my last birthday before I place a 4 in front of my age.

Life is odd.

Who'da thunk.

hmmn.

I'm not really going to go into the weekend concerning the Horizon Oasis officer's retreat. I will summarize by saying it was wonderful, productive, and I have great enthusiasm for the body's direction.

I also did a LOT of work with Eleusyve Productions producers on the upcoming Rite of Venus

I got home in time to watch the Superbowl. I really had little interest in who won. The first half was good, the second half... well, Sexy Rexy and the Bears kinda collapsed on themselves.

But of course... the ads.

This year's winner hands down had to be "Career Builder." The monkeys never really worked for me and this years Corporate Grind meets Survivor was stunningly well done.

2nd place goes to Budweiser (whose Bud Light feel-good ads got old) who may have been hit or miss but the King of the Crabs spot was wonderful.

Points to Diamond foods for the most surreal moment with Robert Goulet.

But a special nod to the challenging of middle America with two very non-standard sexual moments.

I believe it was snickers that showed two men kissing. (right near the beginning) but the Bulls-eye had to be an incredibly tame and entertaining Prince mini concert right down to the shadow show of his AMAZINGLY phallic guitar.

I just never noticed that in the old "Glyph" and boy did he show it on TV.

Interestingly... no news agency has commented on this.

So... quiet Superbowl. Good, productive weekend. Long week ahead.

Hopefully more soon.

[livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy's work. Really good quiz.

Your knowledge of the Book of the Law is 100%!

Congratulations. Either you're a mutant-memoried freak of nature, or you're an obsessed basement occultist with no life. In the interest of politeness, we won't deign to guess which.

Intimate Fire held a solstice ritual on Thursday evening (Dec 21, 2006) at Moonflower Magick

We had about 11 people from the local community join us as well as a reporter from the Everett Herald.

The reporter wrote a nice piece on Solstice and Intimate Fire..and Moonflower in Friday's paper.

The original article is also posted to their online site at:
http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/06/12/22/100loc_b1solstice001.cfm

It's a good article with only a few small corrections that I sent in...

When I troll for comments, it never works and when I don't look for comments... they pour in.

Having mixed the pot to confuse people.

IF is no longer coming. IF IS

Our local magickal group performed a dedication ritual to actually move toward being an OTO body. The first stage is to be acknowledged as a Camp in Formation.

Last night the 5 active initiates in our working group officially took this step.

IF is a reality.

While the website is temporary while we ramp up...

I was riding the Boston Light Rail today into downtown to meet a friend for lunch.

A youngish (c. 25y) guy gets on and looks at me. I am wearing: Black slacks, black shoes, a purple button down shirt and a leather vest. (Yes, I have a new one!!!) I am also wearing my new silver OTO lamen necklace.

After a minute he looks at me and asks, "Do you practice ceremonial magick?"

Amused, I say. Yup. The necklace was probably a giveaway. He looked but couldn't figure out which group it was. I said, "O.T.O." His eyes lit up and like a 10 year old demonstrating her new long word the guy said, "Right... Ordo Templi.... Orientis." I smiled and like a game show host said, "That's correct."

We talked briefly about the OTO's growth over the last few years, his interest in Crowley's material, and the local Boston group. (I gave him KTO's URL). He commented he was at his stop and thanked me. As he got off he turned back and said, "Oh... um... Nighty-Three!" and went on his way.

I looked at my riding companion and said, "Happens to me all the time." She knew this was a blatant lie and we laughed about the experience.

None the less... you know....really cool!

Wednesday night coming home from our local Thelemic Magickal Group I looked at the clock.

It was the Ides of March, 2006. It was 11:34 pm. And I had been an initiate of the order for 8 years.

My minerval occurred at 11:34pm, March 15, 1998.

At some point I should post my OTO resume for my own reference. :)

It's 9:15 am. the girls are still quite unconscious. This is to be expected after our wild night of driving... Hmmn, not so wild. I remember car... road... more road... It was a lot of driving.

We got on the road yesterday at about 10:30 am. Minor delays caused by morning, hormone surprises adn the usual pre-trip disorganization prevented our planned 9am departure.

9 --> 522 --> 405

We stopped off at the Arby's off Exit 2 on 405 almost to the Airport. They managed to mess up [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy's order of "A number 7." This is why I never order fast food by the number anymore.

405 --> 5

From there a straight shot to [livejournal.com profile] royalbananafish in Portland. We hit there about 2 pm. The goal was to get to her by 12:30pm... So we were at least traveling at the speed we wanted. [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy drove from Portland to Eugene and then I took over until about Medford. We had a lovely dinner at Red Lobster and then I learned how you can't buy Pseudophedrine in Oregon. Grymble.

more 5

[livejournal.com profile] royalbananafish took over driving after dinner. We got to see how the Prius handled mountain climbing and got all the way to Redding, CA.

We settled in at Red Lion. this is a chain I'd not previously heard of. What was cool was that they took my Alaska Air card and my AA card and got us two Queen sized beds in a non-smoking room with free wi-fi for an AMAZING price.

So, (since this has been slow typing) it's coming up on 10am. The girls... still asleep. Today we head for L.A.

The trip has been on a sort of time frame. So there hasn't been "Stop and socialize time"

If there are people along the trip for the way back... maybe it would be possible. Go ahead and comment here and we'll try to have a rough idea of where we may be when. It's pretty much... hop on 5, get off 5.

So.. waves to all... It's time to wake the Thelemic Babes and head off

Heading south. Just entering Eugene, OR. with [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy and [livejournal.com profile] royalbananafish headin' all the way to L.A.!!!

In an increasing effort to acclimate myself to this "kitchen" thing... I decided to try to make gingerbread cookies for tomorrow.

And I decided to make 'em "OTO" style...

So... here's what my first venture into cookies, gingerbread, and artistic food came out as:

This is a shout out to any brethren who knows KTO's schedule.

I want to make my way to mass today but don't have the exact time (I've told it might be different from the schedule) and/or directions to the temple location. (Directions including mass transit from Boston would be appreciated.)

If you want to leave a cell number or contact me, comments are hidden (screened) from everyone else. You can also text my phone from my profile page for those that don't have my cell number.

Thanks!!!

We have just (about 10 minutes ago) gotten home from Kaaba. For those who don't know the term, this is effectively the OTO's sponsored leadership conference.

This was an knowledge packed weekend where higher ups who've been through the trenches gave a ton of information on organization, leadership, crisis management, proceedure primarily relating to OTO operation but applicable in far many areas.

It was much food for thought and much thought for...well, you get the idea.

My apologies to anyone who tried to reach me this weekend an any electronic forum. I have had nearly 0 connectivity. (And believe it or not.. I was okay with this.)

So... as for my schedule... I have a long week ahead.

at 8:30 am I take poor [livejournal.com profile] cute_evil to the vet for X-Rays
at 1:00 pm I have my first physical therapy appointment as prescribed by my doctor.
Then that evening I have a magickal working group that will discuss what we learned this weekend.

Tuesday is the local body quarterly community meeting. (Which may also feature more Kaaba brain dump), Wednesday and Thursday are fairly quiet.

Friday it all kicks off again when we do Minervals in Seattle at Horizon Oasis, then it is back to Portland for the weekend where I will be childing on Saturday. [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy will be vending her artwork at Sekhet-Maat Lodge in Portland. Then on Sunday we will be the Priest and Priestess for their afternoon mass.

Well it's now been closer to 45 minutes to an hour from when I started typing this... So more soon.

So, tonight we needed to run into the city to deal with some paperwork with our local Body master for the OTO.

Translation, we went into the city to exchange paperwork and it turned into several hours of good red wine, chat, and hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] babalonyieh and [livejournal.com profile] regulus666. I have also discovered that once I get past the second glass of red wine, the next 6 glasses go much more easily. I discovered this also to the amusement of [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy. Well amusement and mild annoyance when my penchant for topic related stories became digressions that wouldn't let her speak. So muchly bonding (that's bonding not bondage) with our LB officers. (Also got to see all to briefly [livejournal.com profile] matertiamat) Inits in November are gonna be fuuuuunnnnnn :-D

I have to admit, that I really like [livejournal.com profile] regulus666 and [livejournal.com profile] babalonyieh. (I like [livejournal.com profile] matertiamat too, but didn't get to hang out with her as much.) But the people I did spend the night chatting with... I like them more and more the more time I spend with them.

As you can probably tell from the writing style... still a touch of alcohol in the system. (See we started with this killer sweet desert wine)... I'd say I'm about 70+% to sober now. :-) I had a bottle of water on the ride home along with a muffin. (Blueberry I think). Had two pieces of bread once I got home. We'll see how miserable I feel in the morning :)

With luck next week we'll get to hang with [livejournal.com profile] jonah777 and family.

A good night chatting about all things and all topics tonight. I like it :)

I caught [livejournal.com profile] rodneyorpheus online just after he'd made a post. I agree with a good bit of what he's posted (but not all). Saying this may get me in a bit of hot water with the local communities, but ... I'm not at this time going to go into what I did and didn't agree with. (it's late, and the [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy would like me to turn off the damned computer already :)

I addressed Rodney at one point after some logical deduction and questioning on my part in IM and the following transpired...

Me: So, basically... (me challenging one of his points)
R: that's a very good point.
R: I like that.
(snip)
Me: Well, to be honest I have the urge to post, "I got an acquiescence from Rodney" on LJ, but I think I can avoid that much self humouring for myself.
R: hahaha
R: please do, it would be funny :)
R: it's a rare thing

So there you have it. Hopefully at some point I will gather the words to express how I feel, rather than traipsing thru some great vagueness. But the details weren't important. Only that I found a point I disagreed with and was able to find a way to show the reasons. Happy pleased warm feelings.

Film at 11 :)
