This link may or may not work for an unbelievably cute dose of [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman

Otherwise the image is bow below the cut.

Happy 14th month, [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman

I posted last year at the end of September (with [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman barely a month old) about how many people had told me that Aiden and I looked alike.

I have to admit.. I didn't see it that well. Maybe a hint here or there.

Well, in the comparison, I had to mirror and tilt an image of a 25 day old baby and place it against the picture of a child that was roughly 18 months.

It's a year later. Aiden is on the verge of 14 months. He has hair and eyebrows now. His eyes are now a deep, dark brown. He's growing into his face.

So let's take a look at a more recent picture in comparison:

Old pictures are behind this link
New pictures are behind the cut )

Aiden fell onto his butt today. this unto itself wouldn't be too bad. But he bit his tongue when he landed.

So today I got to deal with my first look at "Aiden Blood"

Needless to say.. not the milestone I was looking forward to ever seeing.

Boy is okay. He got ice cream from [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy and [livejournal.com profile] elocinnuala... shook off the pain in minutes.

Daddy will shake off the trauma by 2014

Fighting off feeling under the weather...

So here is some massive cuteness with new pictures of Aiden at play.

While packing for Mass today, [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman wandered over to my computer. He managed to open my word processing program and type on the keyboard.

He left me this message:

Personally, I don't think he could have put that better.

So, a few people told me this weekend that I haven't been posting as much YouTube(tm) as I had been.

Said people, said .. I should post more.

Today was [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman's first birthday. You may have seen a picture .

A full length video is forthcoming. (I need to edit out the excess)...

Well, below the cut is a teaser video.

This is a boy... and his cake.

YUMMMM..... )
lordandrei: (daddy)
I have just fed the boy. He downed almost an entire jar of baby food. This was really his first real feeding. He got into it after a few spoons. I mean realllly got into it.

He enjoyed the process and the food. (ZEUGMA!)

And once he figured out what was going on, he was eager. And NEAT!

The clean up was not hell afterwards.

Monday we will inflict THE CAKE!

It will be glorious.. And yes, [livejournal.com profile] tailerouge... there will be video.

Oh yes.

lordandrei: (Why me?!?!?)
Well, it was bound to come to this day.

The [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman has decided that his favourite game is to go over to the shelf of board games and pull them down and take them apart.

So today, I officially learned to invoke, "No." And let me tell you.. I truly understand the phrase, "This is gonna hurt me more than it's gonna hurt you."

I pulled him away from the box he began to tear and reprimanded with a stern "No"

He plopped down and started to cry. Which in its own way is still wired into the failure-as-a-human circuit in my spine.

Then he tried to get back into the games again. So, I picked him up and put him in the play pen. Which caused more crying. Which causes more angst internally.

Oh, yeah.. Dom, Top, blah, blah, blah...

I don't like being bad cop to the boy.

Hopefully, someday he'll understand. Gah.
lordandrei: (daddy)
I am fighting off a cold. I guess it's Noto-ConCold as I've heard several others have picked it up.

I was 98.8 two evenings ago and 99 last evening.

Add to this the recent entertainment and I'm feeling kinda beaten.

Just a check in...

Excels*kaff kaff*... um... ior
lordandrei: (daddy)
I got home. I got to watch Aiden play in the garden.

Afterwards we came inside for [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy to demonstrate Aiden's ability to go down steps.

We have half staircases. In other-words, the stairs go halfway up to a landing and then turn 180 degree to go up the the next level.

So the going-up-gate now resides on the first step of the half leading to the top floor.

Aiden quickly climbed the steps...holding onto a toy He turned around and then came down them.

The first step was daunting. He came to the edge and looked like he was going to pitch right over. But then he plopped down at the edge and let his feet dangle until he could reach the next step. Then he stood up... plopped on the step he'd just landed on and repeated.

When he was two near the bottom he misjudged and pitched forward. I caught him in my lap. I gave him many hugs of congratulation.

Aiden seemed a bit put off my my affection. The manner could be best described as, "Come on dad, you're embarrassing me."

I put him down and he quickly climbed to the second step and came back down. This time with no problems.

And then I realized what he'd done.

It was as if he knew he'd blown the last two steps on the first trip and wanted to go back and do them right.

He could have climbed all the way back up. But he climbed to the point where he'd lost control, then came down and didn't show interest in immediately going back up.

This is a lot more cognative than I was expecting.

Just a quick checklist for milestones over the last 10 days:

  • Teeth
  • Eating solid food
  • Walking
  • Going up and downstairs
  • Pitching a fit if he doesn't get his way

When I got the report of "Down Stairs" today I asked [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy
Um does this mean more terror?

She responded:
sure, why not. it's a way of life at this point :)

Have I mentioned how much I love this woman, recently?

It's a lot... for the record.
lordandrei: (8.5 months)
Guess who is walking in my house.

Yeah.. too easy.

I made a voice post earlier. If anyone is willing to try to transcribe it... It'd be massively appreciated. The auto-transcriber... didn't do too great a job.

I'd do it, but considering the time it'd take and the fact that once I do it, I lock out anyone else from transcribing... it's best that I call for assistance.

The post was about the fact that my nearly 11 month old has discovered pelvic thrusting... To which one of my dearest (and longest termed) friends IMed the following:

FH: Now, say this with me,
FH: "That is something for by yourself."

Me: Is that line about me posting about it, or the line I'm supposed to say to Aiden.

FH: The line you're supposed to say to Aiden
FH: It works with {our daughter}
FH: It slowed her down during the "Hey! That feels good!" phase.

Me: Girls pelvic thrust?

FH: Yep.
FH: It feels good!
FH: Of course they do.

Me: yigh

FH: Why yigh?

Me: The things you just don't expect.

FH: Fortunately, I got a heads up from another mom.
FH: With the wording.
FH: It has worked perfectly.
FH: Otherwise, {she} would still try to do it in public.

Me: Yeah, but I tell him it's for on his own time.. and then I find out I can't get into the bathroom for a week, and his socks start to go missing...

FH: Welcome to parenthood.

It is difficult to focus on anything for extended periods of time. The boy is pretty much mobile. He will find any item and rip into it. Moments ago I saw him grab a bag of nacho chips that had been on a window sill. He managed to in a period of four seconds pick up the back and shake it.

By the time I was standing and halfway across the room, the bag was inverted and the floor was covered in chips. Everywhere. Of course you look up and the boy has a gleam of pride in his eyes.

It's interesting. Maybe it's because I've changed him at least 400 times (Yes that number is probably an accurate estimation).. but I get surprised when people think that Aiden is a girl. To me.. he's pretty much "all boy."

(stepped away from this post for a moment)

Make that 401. And OMG! I'm so happy we're feeding him 8-{

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy for this picture today

We are trying to begin boxing the condo for the eventual move to the yet to be discovered house.

[livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman managed to get into a box yesterday. On top of the box was some medication I have. Inside the box was most of our CD collection.

At first I didn't really pay attention to him putting his hand into the box and pulling out CDs. It was amusing because he found one blue jewel box he liked. He accidentally dropped it back in and then rummaged for it. He actively was trying to sort thru the CDs to find the jewel box he'd dropped.

After a while he wandered over to [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy with the loot he'd found. In one hand... A copy of "Dark Side of the Moon." In the other... the pill tube.

Floyd and Pills. Gotta start 'em early I guess :-0

Now had it been Dark Side and a copy of "Wizard of Oz"... then I'd really be scared.
lordandrei: (Oooh)
So, the telephone we have is a remote receiver.

I saw [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman pull it off the table just now. It makes beeping sounds when you press buttons.

I figured... Okay... Might as well pull it away before he...

I look at it..

0113448.. Oh good he was on his way to dialing Pamplona, Spain.

Knew he was gonna be a risk taker.

And they say your kids run up your phone bill

[livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy was changing [livejournal.com profile] aiden_freeman this morning.

Aiden has decided that this is no longer an activity he wants to help with and would rather use it as an opportunity to be elsewhere.

As a result, we have taken to trying to engage him to distract him from changing time.

Sometimes it is games and sounds, sometimes it is just pinning his shoulders down (in a gentle, parental manner), usually it is talking.

Today's morning talk from [livejournal.com profile] shimmeringjemmy didn't quite go as planned.

"Free the crotch. Free the crotch.

It's sort of like 'Free Willy', but not really."

I start to laugh like a puerile teen-ager.

"Okay... maybe it's exactly like 'Free Willy'

I am down for the count.
lordandrei: (Default)

That is all.

Oh... um.. enjoy ;)
